The Post: Senior Social Worker – Mental Health

Role Summary This role involves assessing the psycho-social needs of patients in the context of their family and social environment.
An important focus of this work involves addressing relevant issues and exploring options to enhance personal and family growth.
Therapy is provided through individual, couple, family and group sessions.
An inherent tenet is the recognition of the rights and dignity of every individual.
This work takes place within the context of a multidisciplinary team.
The Social Worker works collaboratively with other members of the Multidisciplinary team and the patient to achieve optimal treatment outcomes.
During an individual Social Work consultation, the Social Worker will work in partnership with the person to consider the matters that concern him or her most.
Together, the Social Worker and the individual, will explore strengths, vulnerabilities and coping mechanisms, identify the options and supports that may be available and develop strategies to bring about improvement, in accordance with his or her own decisions and lifestyle preferences.
This position offers the opportunity to provide social work services on a General Adult Mental Health Team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: · To provide a professional social work service to the attending patient population, family and relevant others in an LGBT+ inclusive, non-discriminatory manner.
· To carry a caseload and perform the duties required of a Senior Social Worker as a member of multi-disciplinary teams while working under the clinical leadership of the Consultant Psychiatrist, including liaising with statutory and non-statutory agencies.
· To report to the Head of Department on matters of professional practice and development, in accordance with the Statutory requirements of CORU, the Social Work Regulatory body.
· To maintain competent standards in the exercise of assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic and recording procedures and to keep abreast of developments in the field.
· To assist in service evaluation, standard setting and professional audit procedures.
· To supervise and act as a practice teacher to students on placement within the hospital who are pursuing social work training courses in consultation with the relevant universities and the head of department.
· To fully participate in the working of the Social Work Department as directed by the Head of Department or designate including attendance at departmental meetings, participation in clinical audit and research projects and attendance at both in-house and external training as relevant.
