Allow the safe delivery of major projects.Ensure continued safe and compliant operation of the existing electrical infrastructure assets.The Senior Specialist Substations has a key role in ensuring the correct technical direction of our HV Substation capital works projects from 38 kV up to 400 kV. The role has responsibility for the approval of the key substation engineering designs, ensuring our designs are fit for purpose for the successful delivery of our 2040 Net Zero strategy. This role will support all substation capital projects, and attendance at site for complex projects will be a feature of the role. This role will also have a people management aspect and will be responsible for the management of a small engineering team providing specialist engineering services to the wider substation delivery functions in ESB.
Key Responsibilities The following are the key responsibilities of this role:
Oversight and approval of all key project single line diagrams and layout designs created by internal stakeholders in EMP.Review of scoping documentation for HV substation projects and provision of comments/direction on changes required.Implementation of design reviews on substation capital projects ensuring lessons learnt are captured and appropriately actioned.Provision of specialist design expertise/knowledge to project design teams and project delivery organizations.Support the rollout of pilot projects for new technologies and engage/contribute to relevant industry forums and professional bodies.Maintain and develop substation engineering capability and expertise across the substation engineering group, including provision of graduate training modules on the same.Management of specialist design team ensuring effective on-time delivery of services and overall responsibility for delivery of these services.Knowledge, Skills and Experience Working as part of this dynamic team, you will always have new challenges and new problems to solve – working together is key. You will have the autonomy to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems with the support of your colleagues.
A minimum of 10 years substation engineering experience in Ireland.An in-depth knowledge of substation design practices in Ireland.Proven track record of delivering substation design projects up to EHV.In-depth knowledge of IEC standards relevant to HV substations design and components.Demonstrated record of sound engineering judgment based on experience, knowledge, and a deep understanding of the fundamental principles underpinning power system engineering.Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Ability to respond to change within a fast-changing business environment.Proven ability to work on own initiative and deliver results to strict deadlines.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Good understanding of the utility sector and new and emerging technologies.Qualifications A recognised third-level degree or equivalent work experience is essential.Master's degree in a relevant field of electrical engineering.Location This role is based in either E&MP Dublin/Cork offices, but travel to project locations as required is a key requirement of the role.

€80,000 to €94,000 per annum.
