Position Summary
The ideal candidate will be a technical expert as structural engineer with significant experience working in a collaborative team environment. They will have large scale data center design experience, working knowledge of site and building design standards, experience in site selection and due diligence, and master planning for data centers, along with design and peer review experience. This position requires a collaborative structural engineer who can demonstrate technical expertise combined with the ability to effectively communicate results of technical design reviews and direction to our A/E partners for multiple and concurrent data center design projects.
Job Description: This position is for a Structural Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) that will provide design review and guidance, technical leadership, and coordinated design direction for structural engineering elements for data center design, permitting, construction, site selection, due diligence, and master planning. The Structural Engineering SME will work on multiple APAC projects and collaborate with the team that's launching Microsoft's best-in-class cloud infrastructure worldwide.
Key Responsibilities: The Structural Engineer SME will engage with key Microsoft stakeholders, authorities having jurisdiction, as well as external A/E consultants and contractors that specialize in data center builds to ensure that the Client data center technical design standards and quality are met. The successful candidate will provide structural engineering technical review and oversight for new data center designs, builds, leases, and renovations, in addition to structural technical support for site selection, due diligence, master planning, and permitting.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills: Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering (Master's Degree preferred). Professional Engineer in Structural Engineering (Structural Engineering license preferred). Minimum of 10 years' experience in structural engineering with experience leading large scale critical infrastructure projects. Minimum of seven years of experience in due diligence for greenfield, brownfield, retrofit and expansion of large-scale facilities including geotechnical report analysis, topographic and boundary survey review, and structural design review, code analyses, covenant/restriction review, and coordination with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), building departments, and utility purveyors. Candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical design approaches and decisions. Experience in navigating CAD, Revit, Sketchup, Bluebeam, and BIM software for drawing review and development of conceptual level master plans during site selection and early design phases is desirable. Expert knowledge of building codes and regulations. Experience working in mission critical projects. Experience and working knowledge on land acquisition, master planning, permitting, and development. Provide structural engineering technical oversight for site selection and due diligence efforts with external and internal stakeholders.
