Diabetes Care Kilkenny Our new manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, opening in 2024, reflects the growing demand for Abbott's global Diabetes Care products. The facility will be a centre for world-class engineering, quality, medical device manufacturing, and other science-based professionals to produce life-changing technologies, including the FreeStyle Libre 3, a system that automatically delivers real-time, up-to-the-minute glucose readings, with the smallest and thinnest wearable glucose sensor that provides unsurpassed 14-day accuracy and optional glucose alarms directly to smartphones. This enables people with diabetes to live the best and fullest lives they can.

Based at our new Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, Ireland there is an opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to join the expanding Systems Engineering team.
The Systems Engineering team, comprising of controls engineers, vision engineers, MES recipe architects, systems engineers and data scientists, supports the on-going development, validation, deployment, and support of control, inspection and data acquisition systems which integrate into our manufacturing operations, enabling ADC to provide innovative state-of-the-art solutions that facilitate the company's Factory 4.0 initiatives.
As the Systems Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for software systems employed in the production of our Diabetes sensors which interface with PLCs, SCADA systems and Line Controllers to record data to an Oracle database to build the product quality record.
The Systems Engineer shall generate/support system requirements for both bespoke developed and customisable off-the-shelf systems, work with original equipment manufacturers to guide detailed design implementation and manage system integration verification and validation activities.
Key Responsibilities Technical expert for data and manufacturing operations management systemsWork with OEM Equipment Vendors to transfer data from manufacturing lines to an Oracle databaseMap data from PLCs, SCADA systems and Line Controllers to Database schemaPerform risk assessments on data acquisition system designReview data transfer test protocolsQuery data within an Oracle database and troubleshoot issuesModify existing software systems for real-time data acquisition from production machinery and laboratory processes as part of continuous improvement activitiesImplement and validate new software systems and Oracle databases as requiredIdentify and deliver systems for both PC and PLC backup and recoveryUndertake cyber security risk analysis and manage programs to raise the maturity level for cyber security at the operational technology layerDefine roadmap and manage periodic updating of operating systemsWork with Systems Engineering team, controls engineers, vision engineers and OEM manufactures to continuously improve processes and standards in line with business needsEducation and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Systems, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, Biomedical, or Software), or related discipline4+ years of in a similar position, including systems integration, data acquisition, system architecture design, requirement/user need gatheringExperience in software testing, verification, and validationExperience with querying SQL databasesExperience with data historiansExperience in application development and deployment (e.g. Microsoft Visual Studio, C#, VB.net, SQL Server)Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 820 and Part 11 guidelinesGood problem-solving abilities – able to identify facts, consider alternative approaches and evaluate the most appropriate actionExperience working in a validated environment with strong discipline regarding change control is preferredWhat we Offer Attractive compensation package that includes competitive pay, as well as benefits such as:
