Brothers of Charity Services Ireland Southern Region The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation, which provides age related residential, educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area.
We require bright ambitious individuals who have a positive attitude towards working with persons with an intellectual disability and who are committed to ensuring that our persons supported lead as normal and enjoyable a life as possible.
We are seeking energetic, passionate Social Care Workers to join our residential care teams based in a variety of locations in Cork City, suburbs, West Cork Areas (Innishannon / Bandon).
This competition is also open to candidates who are graduating this year and who wish to pursue their career as Social Care Workers.

Cork A panel will also be formed from this competition to fill vacancies as they arise in the coming year The Purpose The overall purpose of the role is to take responsibility for the day-to-day activities in Residential Centres.
The Social Care Worker role is to support the person supported in all aspects of their life focusing on the individuals ability and promoting independence and development of skills at all times.
The Social Care Worker will assist and support people who use the service with development of their individual person centred plans and the achievement of associated outcomes, and critically, will support people who use the service to make informed choices and fulfil their potential.
They will encourage participation in the community through inclusive and creative thinking, seek opportunities for new experiences and encourage positive risk taking in leading to informed choices.
The successful candidate will assist the Social Care Leader in the responsibility for community participation and positive risk assessments, personal care plans, budget management, staff planning, staff support and family liaison and ensuring the service delivered is person-centred.
The person/s appointed will be very flexible in their approach to service provision and have the ability to work both on their own initiative and as a member of a team.
He/she will be required to take an active part in ensuring that their day-to-day work reflects the ethos and vision of the Brothers of Charity and that the needs of the children/adults in the service are being met by them as directed via a rights based approach.
As a team member, the best interests of each person using our service will be paramount in all discussions.
Emphasis will be on forming a team approach involving person supported, families, advocates and staff on all relevant issues.

Candidates must Possess a Diploma or BA (Ord) Degree in Social Care Practice (Level 7 or higher on the Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) framework) OR Possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Social Care Worker Registration Board, CORU And Must be eligible for registration on the Social Care Workers registration board with CORU and obtain such registration by November 2025 and must maintain such registration for the duration of employment in this role Have a suitable standard of professional attainments Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office) Be computer literate including proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge and proficiency of using information systems for the social care worker post/s.
Have a full clean Drivers licence which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads as driving services vehicles is a requirement for the role Experience Relevant experience of working with adults / children with an intellectual disability / autism challenging behaviour in a Residential setting is desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated experience and understanding of how to support individuals with very specific and clinical support requirements and a clear understanding of the importance of working in line with written protocols and guidelines Age The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018* set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants.
* Public Servants not affected by this legislation: Public servants recruited between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age.
Public servants recruited since 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement age of 70.
Health Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
