AWS Networking is looking for a Systems Development Engineer to join our Data Center Network Engineering team. The successful candidate will own the development and delivery of software systems that support the continuous release of our commodity hardware and software at massive scale in both physical and virtual environments, working within and across teams. This will include leveraging existing systems, development of new ones, and coordination/orchestration of these systems. They will develop metrics and benchmarking systems to deeply understand the performance, availability, and safety of our platforms and develop and deliver innovative solutions that drive ever greater experiences for our customers.

Systems Development Engineers are expected to develop and implement best practices, refine operational procedures and constantly innovate proactively. They should continuously identify areas of growth within the existing frameworks, tools and processes to develop further technical mechanisms to reduce waste and continuously improve.
We're looking for someone who is highly autonomous, very detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has significant experience working at scale. Systems Development Engineers work hand-in-hand with Software Development and Network Deployment teams to invent new ways of deploying, scaling and operating Amazon's Next-Generation Network while never losing sight of the high security bar our customers demand.
Key job responsibilitiesYou will be responsible for delivering tooling support for the latest Amazon Network platforms.
The engineer in this role will:
Collaborate with our internal customers on designs/solutions and bring them from concept to production.Be part of the team that shapes Network planning and evolution for AWS.Use and develop tools and processes that collect and analyze data to produce an outcome.Use and develop tools and frameworks to reduce workload and deliver support for new platforms as they are developed and introduced into the AWS network.Identify and troubleshoot issues with effective escalation of senior-level engineering teams.Contribute to the team and platforms documentation, process and procedures.Be involved in the formulation of structured training.A day in the lifeYou will work closely to with internal and external partners to drive the programs that you are responsible for. You will ensure that timelines are defined and followed to enable the successful delivery of features and products to meet customer demands.
About the teamProduct Engineering Team sits within the DCF Organization and are responsible for all aspects of planning the core networking datacenter network. The team is located between Seattle and Dublin with two primary services Platform Topology and Efficiency (PTE) and the Platform and Features (Pioneers). The team has overall responsibility for managing the hardware and software required to support the datacenter core networks. The team ensures there are defined transition plans, maximizing the cost effectiveness of our topologies for the full lifecycle from initial designs to decommissioning. We use the latest hardware to provide the best user experience for customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)Experience (non-internship) in professional software developmentExperience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systemsExperience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineeringExperience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, RubyPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or JavaExperience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology
