Kuiper Payload Test System is in search of an SDE that specializes in quality. As a Sr. Embedded Software Engineer within Kuiper PTS you will own development and execution of test strategy for large complex systems, tooling and automation to deliver high quality software to meet Kuiper's critical mission requirements. You will see around corners to manage dependencies, dive deep with engineers across the Kuiper Payload organization, and regularly communicate with senior leaders, and stakeholders at all levels. You will amplify your impact working closely with team members and software development managers to drive mindful discussions that lead to crisp decisions and high-quality solutions.
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills, able to work independently, juggle multiple tasks at once, and maintain professionalism under pressure; all while achieving and driving high quality results. You should have deep knowledge of software engineering practices, understand how software and hardware systems interact, and can drive design and implementation of test strategies in highly complex and ambiguous systems.
Key job responsibilitiesEngage with and influence the key stakeholders and internal teams to test and ensure operational functional requirements are met or exceeded.Create and implement automated processes and test methods that reduce manual efforts and increase overall efficiency, quality and scalability.Engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive, design, test and implement internal custom processes and test strategies. Responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.Provide on-shift support for critical issues.Work closely with other internal System Development Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new processes, testing and build systems.Create and review documentation and process regarding issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.Export Control RequirementDue to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the lifeAlthough each day may bring new challenges, the majority of your time we will be creating test strategies, new automation, test tools and infrastructure. We collaborate closely with software development teams to achieve a high quality releases that meet tight timelines without introducing new regressions or lowering product quality.
About the teamOur teams' mission is to ensure the software development teams are building and delivering high quality software solutions that meet Kuiper's critical mission objectives. We do this by developing and executing on providing custom test infrastructure, quality automated testing and influencing quality behaviors throughout the Kuiper organization. Protecting downstream partners from regressions and broken builds is one of our highest concerns and contributions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience developing and testing embedded systems. This should include complex systems where hardware and software were under simultaneous development, often requiring troubleshooting of hardware and software concurrently.
- Familiarity with space systems is desired but not a requirement.
- Hands-on experience with black and white-box testing of communications network stacks such as Ethernet, 3GPP, WiFi, DOCSIS
- Hands-on experience with setup, control and automation of lab equipment like spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, packet testers, channel emulators, high-speed oscilloscopes
- Debugging of complex hardware-software systems
- Networking or RF communications knowledge

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
