Position: Staff EHS Specialist Location: Galway Permanent Role Salary €55,000 to €65,000 The Role: We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a global medical device company, an experienced Staff EHS Specialist for the development of their state of the art manufacturing facility in the West of Ireland.
As a Staff EHS Specialist, you will play a key role in establishing and enhancing the Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) function for our client.
Reporting to the Regional EHSS Leader, your primary responsibility will be to foster a positive EHSS culture by providing technical expertise across all functions.
This role requires close collaboration with the Global EHSS team to ensure local site practices align with global standards and best practices, creating a safe and compliant workplace for employees, visitors, and contractors.
Responsibilities: * Improve workplace safety performance by fostering a positive EHSS culture and implementing safety and environmental management systems in compliance with regulations and corporate policies.
* Identify and assess hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace through regular inspections and audits, ensuring that physical conditions and safe work practices meet standards.
* Coordinate and implement controls based on hazard analyses and risk assessments, regularly evaluating the effectiveness of these controls and recommending improvements to reduce workplace incidents and injuries.
* Assist in developing controlled documents and training programs on topics such as compliance, lab/plant inspections, material handling, and life safety.
* Develop and implement research protocols to evaluate ergonomic initiatives and integrate ergonomic principles into complex problem-solving scenarios to enhance human performance and reduce risks.
* Review, investigate, and implement action plans for work-related injuries, illnesses, accidents, and safety concerns.
* Stay informed on EHSS regulations, fire and safety codes, and engineering safety standards to ensure compliance and risk management.
* Coordinate and participate in safety-related committees, providing expertise on safety risk management, statistics, trends, and operational layouts.
* Conduct and lead comprehensive worksite inspections and audits.
* Perform other related tasks that support the overall function of this position.
Qualifications/Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
* 5+ years of relevant experience in EHSS, preferably within a manufacturing or medical device environment.
* Strong familiarity with health, safety, and regulatory requirements, along with the ability to apply state-of-the-art technology to solve EHSS challenges.
* Proven ability to assess and address complex situations quickly and effectively.
* Accredited certifications such as Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are strongly preferred.
* Demonstrated success in managing EHSS programs and projects, with excellent project management and facilitation skills.
* Ability to work efficiently under pressure while managing multiple responsibilities.
