You will be working as part of the Oncology nursing team and with the multidisciplinary team in the delivery of quality and patient centred nursing care.
We are interested in receiving applications from qualified Staff Nurses in the areas of general and oncology who have primarily worked in oncology settings that have an interest in quality initiation for the Nursing Service and can demonstrate knowledge of risk management from investigation to reporting.
Essential Criteria: Be registered on the general division of the register of nurses maintained by the NMBI.
Have at least 2-3 years post registration experience in an acute hospital setting.
A higher Diploma in SACT nursing care would be highly desirable for the role.
Have an interest in procedural nursing and in learning and developing new skills.
Have proven clinical and professional ability.
Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Have good IT skills, with ability to use Microsoft packages e.g.
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint etc.
Key Duties: Assessment, care, and monitoring of a patient admitted for SACT and to be able to monitor and assess patients who are admitted with complications of their SACT treatment.
Assessment, care, and monitoring of a patient with known or suspected progression of disease.
Proficient in the use of Mosaiq and BD Cato Systems Care of the patient with known or suspected sepsis.
Care, assessment, management, and monitoring of a patient with neutropenia.
Care of patient with a PICC, Port or Hickman line.
Correct technique for blood cultures & blood sampling via CVC.
Use of PVC & CVC care bundles.
Practices safely using the oncology Policies for Safe handling, Spillage and Extravasation of chemotherapy.
Use of the IV infusion pumps Reacts appropriately to abnormal Lab / x-ray result.
Care of Patient Post Bone Marrow Biopsy/Lumbar Puncture Conversion of SC versus PO drug doses.
Management of the patient requiring breakthrough medications Use of Oncology Core Care Plans Management of NFR status Completion of 24hr urine collections Provision of Oral care & bowel care Accurate completion & follow-up of phone call documentation Use of the INEWS Chart and escalation algorithm Accurate recording and interpretation of fluid balance Management of Drug Administration: Appropriate recording of administration of MDA's Correct calculation of drug dosage and the administration of IV drugs using Aseptic Non-Touch Technique.
Wound Management and the use of good aseptic technique.
Patient education.
Correctly manages patients who require transmission-based precautions.
