DISABILITY SERVICE SUPPORTED LIVING, GLANMIRE JAN 2025     Support Worker (HCA or SCW): Glanmire, Cork city    The Company:   Barrog Healthcare is a small, private health and social care provider based in Cork and Dublin with services nationwide providing residential care and day packages nationwide to enable people who need support across the areas of mental health, disability, aftercare, transitional and mainstream social care.

The right candidate for this role will strive to enhance the lives of the individuals by promoting their community inclusion and equal citizenship.  Purpose of Role: to provide a range of services to individuals with low level intellectual disabilities.
The primary purpose of the role is to support our clients to maintain their own tenancy and independence in the community.     Support Workers / Social Care Workers will empower the individuals being supported to live self-determined lives in socially inclusive communities.     Support Workers / Social Care Workers will work in collaboration with the support team, leadership team and all other stakeholders to ensure people have a safe and effective service.

in Social Care, QQI Level 7 PLUS registration as a Social Care Worker with CORU by Nov 2025 is required.
OR a sufficiently relevant qualification in Social Care or a related field along with registration as a Social Care Worker with CORU by Nov 2025.  Full clean driver's license valid for driving in Ireland  Comfortable working with technology required for the role; Email, Apps  Ability to maintain records and reports in relation to service and client activity  An understanding of the responsibilities of support workers under Safeguarding guidelines    The following will be seen as an advantage:     One year of experience in a Healthcare or Social Care setting.  Experience working in a Supported Living Environment  An understanding of the requirements of National Standards and Regulations such as HIQA    Candidate Skills / Experience   The ability to support the client group in a respectful way, always with the client's goals and needs at the centre of every task.  Ability to work independently and show initiative  Proactive approach to professional support role  An understanding of how to prevent and manage challenging behaviour.  Strong communication & interpersonal skills  Comfortable working with essential information technology and providing reports  Resilience, Positive Attitude & Openness to Change  Planning, Organising & Prioritising     Main Duties/ Responsibilities:   Support service users with low level intellectual disability  The staff member would be working in a house, supporting 4-5 clients, clients will be low levels of needs and will be attending structured activities by day (e.g.
day service/courses).   Encourage service users independence, supporting if required budgeting/household chores reminders/attending day service.  Ensure service users are supported to make sense of their environment, learn new skills and maximise their independence.  Support individuals to live a meaningful life, with a priority focus on equal citizenship.  Facilitate everyone supported by the services to actively participate and integrate into the community.  Act as an advocate for clients   Actively promote the participation of clients in the formulation and execution of their goal planning.  Undertake duties as may be assigned by your direct manager/team leader to support the care of clients.  Manage challenging behaviours, using a positive behaviour support plan.  Provide reports on client activities to management  Attend staff meetings and contribute constructively to the ongoing progression/implementation of the care plan.  Attend training and engage in own professional development  Ensure that a safe home environment is maintained  Ensure that the person supported in motivated to try new things and overcome obstacles to progress  Support people with dignity and respect.      The above Job Description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to him/her from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office.
