OVERVIEW OF ROLE The Support Worker will work under the supervision of, and be accountable to, the Social Care Worker (SCW) and Social Care Leader (SCL) who are on shift and assist in delivery of relevant parts of Daily Planners for each young person in the centre.
The practice role will include supervision of young people, menu planning / cooking, general household upkeep, administrative and driving duties.
When the role of a Support Worker is to undertake Live Night duties their specific role will be to unequivocally awaken Social Care staff who will be on sleeping in duties on any, and all, occasion where residents require assistance during the night.
Support Worker will be strongly encouraged to undertake subsidised further education opportunities which may lead to them being qualified in a relevant Social Care qualification.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The roles and responsibilities have been identified based on the National Standards for Childrens Residential Centres, HIQA (2018), upon which all our residential centres are regulated and inspected.
CHILD CENTRED CARE AND SUPPORT Attend and contribute to the Young Peoples House Meeting forum.
Be familiar with the access to records process and reinforce young peoples right to access such records.
Be familiar with the Complaints Policy and promote the complaints procedure with young people when appropriate.
Ensure that complaints made during their shift are identified and recorded under guidance and support from the SCW / SCL.
With direct guidance from the SCW / SCL, facilitate young people availing of family access and record this.
EFFECTIVE CARE AND SUPPORT Ensure an appropriate level of knowledge of the referral information.
Participate in the admission / transition / orientation process for young people received into the centre and ensure that their input in this process is recorded appropriately.
Contribute to the presenting needs of young people as they arise, as directed by an SCW / SCL.
Race, Culture, Religion, Gender, and Disability Follow all guidance from the SCW / SCL in ensuring that these areas are promoted in daily practice.
Accommodation Contribute to a nurturing, safe and caring environment.
Ensure the high presentation of the centre through the implementation of the cleaning schedule and ensure, when appropriate, that the grounds are well maintained.
Ensure the full implementation of the organisational hospitality policy within the centre.
Fire Safety Participate in Fire Drills in accordance with Organisational policy.
Follow all fire safety procedures and identify any deficits that require follow up.
Childrens Case and Care Records Contribute to the daily recordings and care folders as, and when, directed.
Contribute to Shift Handovers when required.
SAFE CARE AND SUPPORT Child Protection Be a Mandated Person, as stated within 2017 Children First legislation.
Have working knowledge and clear understanding of the Organisational Child Protection Policy and for the process for prompt notification of Child Protection and Welfare Concerns.
Managing Behaviour Be up-to-date with all young peoples Placement Support Plan (PSP) and ensure they are fully adhered to.
Contribute to the PSPs when they are reviewed via Team Meetings.
Ensure that they have full knowledge and understanding of each young peoples Absent Management Plan and be responsible for their role in implementing these appropriately, with the direct support and guidance from the relevant SCW / SCL.
Ensure that any direct involvement in a Significant Event Notification (SEN) is efficiently recorded and accurate in detail.
HEALTH, WELLBEING AND DEVELOPMENT Provision of Food and Cooking Contribute to the delivery of the centres menu planner / cooking meals while promoting healthy nutrition.
This will include grocery shopping.
Encourage residents to become involved in cooking / baking in an age appropriate manner.
Contribute toward the provision of healthy snacks.
Medical Care Adhere to the Organisational Medication Policy.
Ensure that medication is dispensed accurately and that this is clearly recorded, while being overseen by the SCW / SCL.
Promote the importance of medical appointments with young people and facilitate these, where appropriate.
Ensure that there is sufficient supply of medication for young people and that this is audited and securely stored as overseen by the SCW / SCL.
Education Facilitate school attendance, educational activities, and outdoor opportunities for young people.
Supervise play areas and play time as directed by the SCW / SCL.
GOVERNANCE Have a clear understanding of the centres Statement of Purpose and Function and the associated expectations.
Model of Care Interact effectively with young people and developing positive relationships.
Apply the LaursensSeven Habits of Reclaiming Relationships, which is the Organisational approach to practice.

RESPONSIVE WORKFORCE Welcome and support new staff members to the centre.
Participate in fortnightly supervision which will be practice and learning based.
Participate in Reflective Practice with the PIC, DPIC, and / or SCW / SCL.
Participate in on-line training programmes.
Attend and participate in Team Meetings.
Participate in Shift Handover meetings, ensuring that all information is appropriately communicated.
USE OF RESOURCES Petty Cash Adhere to direction given in terms of budgeting and financial planning for their shifts.
Adhere to all financial recording, gathering receipts and reconciling balances at the end of shift.
Maintenance and Repairs Undertake minor maintenance tasks.
Carry out maintenance checks and report any issue to the SCW / SCL.
Be accountable for ensuring the appropriate cleanliness and upkeep of centre vehicles.
Repair work will be promptly identified and communicated to the SCW / SCL.
Minimum Qualification FETAC credit in Care Skills at Level 5 QQI accredited Level 5 Early Learning & Care QQI Level 5 Social Studies Or Equivalent
