Background:The Technical Development & Technical Training function within GNI develops and delivers training programmes and assessments to meet the technical competency needs of the business. The function is responsible for the development and maintenance of a comprehensive technical competency management framework. Technical Competency Development aims to ensure that all personnel have the necessary technical skills, knowledge and abilities to undertake technical activities in a safe and efficient manner.
The Role:Reporting to the Gas Technical Competency Training Manager, the Technical Training Instructor will have responsibility for developing and delivering face-to-face gas technical and safety-related training, identifying and implementing training programmes, developing and conducting relevant competency assessments, assisting in developing an annual training plan, supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of 3rd party accreditation(s) and ensuring compliance with national standards through training initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:Developing and delivering gas technical and safety training for GNI staff, contractors and new industry entrants.Developing training plans, courses, programmes and materials.Developing training-related and field assessments.Undertaking formal competency assessments in the training centre and in the field.Delivering training in the training school in Finglas and at locations around the country as required.Delivery of Technical Training in various areas including Leak Management/Transmission Response, Domestic/Non-domestic Gas Installations, Main Laying and Service Laying, Supervisor Competency, Operational procedures, Pressure controls, Transmission pipelines etc.Development and delivery of natural gas safety briefings to third parties, e.g. Fire Services, Local Authorities, Utility Companies.Scheduling and coordinating attendees for the Networks Technical Training Centre in Finglas and elsewhere.Providing systems and tools training to team members.Developing training materials, toolbox talks, briefings etc. to meet competency requirements.Developing training materials based on Irish Technical/Safety Standards, work instructions, operational procedures and the GNI Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems.Extending access to training materials via design, promotion and delivery of briefings/courses.Ensuring training meets the qualifications and competence profiles of staff and contractors.Compliance with and input to the ongoing development of procedures associated with accreditation from external training and development bodies.Undertaking various technical training courses as required, maintaining and developing training capabilities.Ensuring Training Centre records and files are correctly maintained.Planning, organising and coordinating training courses with internal and external stakeholders.Liaison and co-ordination with external training providers.Provision of technical services to the GNI business, e.g. testing of equipment/materials, assisting development of technical procedures.Other duties as required from time to time.Knowledge, Skills and Experience:Training and qualification in Gas Installations or Gas Network Pressure Control or Gas Network Distribution work or relevant discipline essential.Practical gas technical work experience essential.Training and qualification in Safety at Work legislation desirable.Minimum 5 years' experience in technical training, and/or;Minimum 5 years gas industry experience.Proven ability to create and develop good working relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals, coupled with the ability to gain commitment from others.Experience with identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas and implementing solutions.Excellent analytical skills to identify and analyse problems and propose and implement solutions.Previous experience in a training, coaching or instructional role is an advantage.Communication skills, particularly with an audience/group, are an advantage.Proactively identifying new areas of learning and using newly gained knowledge and skills on the job.Ability to set high standards of performance and deliver desired results.Applications, including current Curriculum Vitae, should be emailed to the following address stating the job title and reference number in the subject line of your email: ******
