Reports To: Project Manager Job Summary: The Tekla Detailer is responsible for creating detailed 3D models and drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel components using Tekla Structures software.
This role involves producing accurate and detailed fabrication drawings, erection plans, and material lists, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and company quality standards.
The position requires close collaboration with the fabrication and erection teams, as well as handling additional responsibilities such as nesting materials, ordering, and price comparison.
Key Responsibilities: 3D Modeling: Develop detailed 3D models of structural and miscellaneous steel components using Tekla Structures.
Shop Drawings: Generate accurate shop drawings, including fabrication and assembly details, for steel structures and components.
Erection Drawings: Prepare detailed erection drawings, specifying connections, bolt types, welding details, and erection sequences.
Bill of Materials (BOM): Produce detailed and accurate Bill of Materials, listing all necessary components, materials, and quantities.
Nesting: Utilize software such as ProNest and SteelProjects to nest plates and steel, optimizing material usage for cost efficiency.
Material Ordering: Order required materials based on project needs, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
Price Comparison: Compare prices from different suppliers, preparing detailed price reports for each order to support decision-making.
Team Collaboration: Work directly with the fabrication and erection teams, providing support and resolving any unforeseen issues that arise during the construction process.
Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve design, fabrication, and erection issues in a timely manner.
Flexibility: Adapt to changes in project scope, design alterations, or unexpected challenges, maintaining a flexible and proactive approach.
Quality Control: Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Documentation: Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and project documentation.
Adherence to Standards: Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and client requirements.
Qualifications: Education: Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in steel detailing, specifically using Tekla Structures.
Technical Skills: Proficient in Tekla Structures software.
Experience with ProNest and SteelProjects is an advantage; training will be provided if necessary.
Strong understanding of structural steel design and fabrication processes.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., AISC, BS, Eurocodes).
Knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD software is a plus.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing drawings and models.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and external partners.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address design, detailing, and on-site challenges effectively.
Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, ensuring timely delivery of project deliverables.
Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changes in project scope and unforeseen challenges, maintaining a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in detailing for large-scale projects, such as commercial buildings, industrial structures, or infrastructure projects.
Experience with other 3D modeling or steel detailing software.
Understanding of the full project lifecycle from concept design through fabrication and erection.
Working Conditions: Primarily office-based in Curraglass with frequent interaction with the fabrication and erection teams, potentially including site visits.
Flexibility to work extended hours when necessary to meet project deadlines.
