Dietitian, Senior WTE 0.9 (Grade Code 3395) New development Consultant led Neuro-rehabilitation service (as part of the Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy and Managed Clinical Rehabilitation Network (MCRN), in The Royal Hospital Donnybrook (RHD).
The RHD provides Sub-Acute, Stroke, Respite, Continuing Care, Neurological and General Rehabilitation services to adults, along with a busy Day Hospital under the direction of both rehabilitation and geriatric consultants.
The RHD is an independent, voluntary, charitable organization.
This RHD Neuro-rehabilitation service is upgrading and expanding to 18 inpatient rehabilitation beds with the exciting development of 10 new RHD positions (8.2 WTE), as part of the MCRN and the overall implementation of the Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy.
Reporting Relationship The post holder is professionally accountable and will report to the Speech and Language Therapist Manager Purpose of the post Function as an effective member of the Dietetic team and the Adult Neuro-Rehabilitation team based at the Royal Hospital Donnybrook, with the aim of ensuring optimum delivery of nutritional and dietetic care to patients.
Work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) including but not limited to the departments of Medicine, Nursing, Catering, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Clinical Psychology & Medical Social Work.
Participate in facilitating pre-registration practice education (student placements).
Lead and participate in service development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Be responsible for the organisation, provision and evaluation of Nutrition & Dietetic Services to patients in the Royal Hospital Donnybrook.
Patient Care: Adopt professional and person-centred interpersonal communication with patients, residents, families and colleagues at all times.
Develop, implement and monitor plans of care, based on assessment of the nutritional needs of all patients referred to the service.
Carry out the nutrition-focused physical exam (NFPE) for patients undertaking short-to-long term rehabilitation and evaluate results of same.
Advise and liaise closely with patients and family/carers as appropriate on the practical aspects of nutritional care plans.
Liaise with the Medical / Nursing teams, Health & Social Care Professionals and other members of hospital staff in planning the nutritional care of patients.
To work in close co-operation with the Catering Department to ensure patients nutritional needs are met.
Deliver care within holistic MDT approach.
This includes, for example, multidisciplinary education and attendance at MDT meetings.
Liaise with dietetic and multidisciplinary colleagues in acute, community & other healthcare settings as appropriate.
Maintain appropriate patient records (in the Nutrition care process format) and statistics in line with the department & hospital policy.
Provide dietetic cover as required for other members of the department during periods of leave.
Service Level Act as a resource by participating in the education and training of dietetic colleagues, other health professionals and service user groups as required.
Provide induction and supervision to Staff Grade Dietitians.
Manage, participate and play a key role in the practice education of student Dietitians.
Be actively involved in continuously improving the quality of the service, using audit and quality improvement methods to facilitate best practice, integrated care.
Ensure the ongoing review of existing resources and comply, develop and evaluate new resources to support and meet the needs of the target audience.
Work within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance.
Promote a culture that values equality, diversity and respect in the work place.
Maintain professional standards with regard to patient and data confidentiality.
Ensure attendance at mandatory training within policy time frames.
Comply with and contribute to the development of policies, procedures and safe professional practice and adhere to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.

Keep up-to-date with relevant scientific research findings and current practices, and identify and update relevant measures in response to these findings.
Engage in clinical supervision (provided by off-site Dietetics Managers).
Carry out any other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post that may be assigned by your line Manager.
