RTÉ is Ireland's national public service media organisation. A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost-effective, free-to-air multi-media services to the public in Ireland and interested audiences internationally.
RTÉ Archives house Ireland's largest audiovisual collection and are responsible for collecting, preserving and making accessible the creative and documentary output of the national broadcaster. The collections combine hundreds of thousands of hours of moving image and sound recordings, together with photographs, manuscripts and administrative documents. The RTÉ Archives are an important support to RTÉ's multi-media services and a rich resource for the wider creative media industry both in Ireland and abroad. RTÉ Archives also work with cultural partners and heritage institutions as well as supporting academic research and the educational sector. Access to RTÉ Archives, commercial or otherwise, fulfils a regulatory function.
We are currently working on several projects within the Archive Content Digitisation Programme. An opportunity for a versatile Assistant Archivist has arisen to work across different projects and daily Archiving and Preservation activities.
Reporting to the Programme Manager, RTÉ Archives, the successful candidate will work within one or multiple project teams at any given time during this employment. Their work will be supervised by the appropriate Project Lead or a Senior Archivist.
The key responsibilities for this role are: To deliver daily targets defined for all pre and post digitisation activities as listed below.To continuously look for ways to improve the efficiency of all processes and put forward constructive suggestions.To work in other areas of the RTÉ Archives as may be required.To participate in the overall development of the Archives when needed.The main activities will include, but are not limited to: Hands-on picking, cleaning where required, labelling, packing and manual handling of physical carriers before transport to digitisation service providers.Diligent input of all data as required.Ingest activities and quality checks of the digital content post digitisation.Regular and proactive reports on progress with all activities.
