The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB), based in The Curragh, Co Kildare, is the Regulatory Body for horseracing in Ireland.

An opportunity now exists for a Cadet Handicapper reporting to the Raceday Operations Manager.
Working within the handicapping team and liaising closely with Horse Racing Ireland's Racing Department, this is a new and exciting role, in which the successful candidate will be trained in established handicapping methods and practices.
They will also provide valuable support to the team through the analysis and evaluation of historical racehorse performance data, with a view to becoming a full member of the IHRB handicapping team.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES Observing Handicappers in their day-to-day roles to understand what is required of an IHRB Handicapper.
Training will be provided in both Flat and National Hunt handicapping methods and practices.
Providing support and resilience to the existing handicapping team.
Attending race-meetings as a representative of the Handicapper(s) and/or to support the Stewarding Team.
Carry out data analysis, research and project work on historical performances.
Be the data lead for all IHRB handicapping projects.
Transform raw data on ratings into meaningful insights that will support Handicappers with decision-making and strategy.
Regular engagement with internal and external stakeholders including responding to queries on handicapping decisions, providing information and explaining policy.
Attending HRI Programming Committees and representing IHRB in other forums as required.
KEY REQUIREMENTS Strong knowledge and understanding of horseracing and ratings.
Understanding of and aptitude for, data analysis methods and skills.
Excellent inter-personal and teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, stakeholders and the media if required.
An effective team player with the ability to use initiative, capable of inspiring the trust and confidence of colleagues and stakeholders.
Meticulous attention to detail, consistent approach and good organisational skills with high quality work output.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and with a high degree of flexibility, to take ownership of processes and projects, and to meet strict deadlines in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
Third-level qualifications an advantage.
The position is a full-time role and largely office-based with a hybrid option of working from home.
Attendance at race meetings as required.
As racing is a seven-day sport, this role requires a willingness to work with a high degree of flexibility including availability on evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
The remuneration package will reflect the trainee nature of this unique role and the experience of the applicants.
Travel and subsistence allowances will be paid in line with organisational policies and other approved expenses will be reimbursed.
The contract will be a one year fixed-term contract and subject to a review thereafter.
