Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is one of Ireland's largest acute teaching hospitals, adult, psychiatric and age-related healthcare on one site. The Hospital has 450 adult beds with over 3,500 people on staff and more than 60 different nationalities represented. The Hospital is a provider of local, regional and national specialties. It is a designated trauma unit incorporating the National Pelvic and Acetabular Unit, a regional Urology Centre and the second largest provider of renal dialysis services in the country.
One of the two main academic teaching hospitals of Trinity College Dublin - TUH specialise in the training and professional development of staff in areas such as Medicine, Nursing, Health and Social Care Professionals. TUH is part of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group which serves a population of over 1.2 million across seven counties.

Purpose of the RoleThe Clinical Engineer will work effectively as part of a team dedicated to delivering a high quality efficient service to patients and staff in TUH. They will assist with the support of medical, nursing, paramedical and clinical support staff in the application of technology.
Overview of RoleKey Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist with the support of medical, nursing, paramedical and clinical support staff in the application of technologyAssist with the implementation of the procedures that ensure the day to day scientific and technical quality of all instruments and proceduresAnalyse computer and equipment generated data and present it in a form suitable for clinical interpretationParticipate in research, development and innovation as appropriateAssist with the provision of maintenance services for electro medical equipment in respect of its functional, electronic, electrical and mechanical aspects to a standard of safety, accuracy and reliability consistent with its function and with professional standardsAssist with advising on the selection, specification, acceptance testing and safety of new equipment and installationsAssist with supervision of other staff as requiredProvide in-house training as required, and develop relevant skills as trainer/educatorUndertake courses, education and training programmes to the level required for professional development and performance of dutiesDevelop, as required by Head of Clinical Engineering Services / Line Manager, specialist areas of interest within the fields of Medical Physics and Clinical EngineeringAssist with efficient management of the hospital's budget in relevant areas of responsibilityParticipate in academic activities as per the hospital's teaching agreements with Trinity College Dublin and with academic institutions and in other academic activities as required and directed by the Head of DepartmentParticipate, as required, in the Departments out of normal working hours On Call systemProvide the Department's administration with such records of his/her work as are deemed to be necessaryContribute as required to the development of the Department's policies and services, where required, through participation in the work of, and contributing to the management of, the appropriate operational teams and groupsResponding to telephone requests for equipment under all conditions or urgency and keeping a record of all requestsInspection and functional check of returned equipment using existing guidelinesAssist with the co-ordination and implementation of the preventative schedule maintenance and safety programmesTo attend appropriate education and training programmesThe holder of the post will be encouraged to obtain Professional Engineering Registration StatusAll activities shall be carried out in a professional manner at least in accordance with the Engineers Ireland code of ethicsPerform other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Clinical Engineering Services / Line Manager Qualifications & Experience RequiredMust have:
Possess a first or second class Honours Degree in which Physics was taken as a major subject and Honours obtained in that subject;Or
Hold a recognized qualification at least equivalent thereto.And
Possess the requisite knowledge and ability, for proper discharge of the duties of the post.In addition to the minimum qualifications outlined above, it is desirable that the successful candidate have Clinical Engineering experience in some of the following areas: Infusion Therapy, Dialysis, Intensive Care, Theatre, Cardiology, Endoscopy, Dermatology, Ventilation and Diagnostic Ultrasound. Reward & RecognitionRemuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3794.The appointment is full time, permanent and pensionable.The annual leave entitlement is 27 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year.Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
