Position DescriptionThe Senior Design Engineer will lead day-to-day design activities to facilitate the delivery of HV CP Work programmes, Capital, Repayable and Asset replacement programmes of work in Networks Telecoms.
Working closely with the Design Manager, PMO, Customer Stakeholders, and Program delivery teams, you will contribute to all aspects of the design lifecycle, Pre CA (Capital Approval) and post CA to ensure design stages delivery in a timely and effective manner.
The Senior Design Engineer will provide support to the appointed telecoms PSDP contact person during non-regular works projects to ensure all design related safety documentation and safety file content is available, up to date and in compliance with legislative and duty holding responsibilities.
The Senior Design Engineer will lead the production of Scope of Works, associated costings estimates, design risk assessments and design pack generation as part of all telecoms projects designs which will involve interfacing with subject matter experts, technology service owners and delivery teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the following:
Ensure all design activities are carried out in line with ESBN policies & standards.Contribute to the development of content for design packs to delivery teams.Support with design team development and knowledge transfer within the team.Feed into the Scoping & Pre Capital Approval process and provide the required information to stakeholders.Production of and reviews telecoms Scope of Work & costs for Capital Approvals, design risk assessments, providing the required information.Actively supports PSDP duty holder for non-regular works projects to ensure design and specification activity comply with safety legislation.Supports Design Quality Assurance and control- Inhouse & design partners.Assist and support the design team manager in the planning and coordination of team tasks across design work streams.Undertake site surveys and visits as required for project meetings and design stage scoping exercises.Ability to Develop Self's technical and leadership competencies.Additional duties as required by line manager.Experience & QualificationsMinimum of 5-7 years relevant experience is essential.
Ability to act independently and take initiative.
Demonstrate experience in a technical, design process or project management functional area.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proven communication skills, both written and verbal, to business and technology audiences.
Experience working collaboratively with a geographically dispersed group as well as centralized office-based teams.
Holds Technology and Network architecture knowledge in Telecoms (1 of or selection) – Utility grade multiplexers and teleprotection services, microwave and polling radio systems, cellular LTE and Optical DWDM systems.
Layer 3 routers, IP/MPLS and MPLS/TP architectures, Utility fibre network design.
Full clean driving licence – Travel will be a feature of the role.
Knowledge of relevant policies, standards, procedures, design standards including Health & Safety legislation.
Experience in the preparation and production of documentation such as design Scope of Works, costing estimates and/or business cases and design packs.
Experience in scheduling work and deliverables – MS Project.
Experience in Project Management Methodologies and Strategic Planning.
Extensive IT and digital skills including MS teams and MS power apps.
Chartered Engineer or active in route pathway in obtaining a professional title, i.e., CEng.
Telecoms and/or Networking Certifications, i.e., CCNA, MPLS/TP, Wireless Microwave, Cellular LTE.
Leadership Skillsets/Training.
Level 9 Postgraduate upskilling – Designer accreditations and further learning.
PSDP/PSCS and Designer role training/certification and role demonstration.
Demonstration of interest in Mentoring pathway with ESBN.
LocationNetworks Telecoms is based in ESB Networks, Leopardstown Rd, Sandyford, Co Dublin, however flexible arrangements will be considered for this role.
Travel within Ireland will be a feature of this role.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week.
