Were looking for a Shift Technician to join our team supporting a key data center environment, where youll play a crucial role in ensuring seamless and secure facility operations 24/7.
Purpose of Job As a Shift Technician, you will be part of an operations team supporting the critical infrastructure of a data center around the clock.
This role involves handling emergency responses, managing essential services, and stabilizing any emergency conditions that arise.
Working closely with the day operations team, you will perform key electrical and mechanical switching activities to support both planned and reactive maintenance across the campus.
The Shift Technician will report directly to the Shift Lead on-site.
Responsibilities Act as the primary point of contact during your shift for both client representatives and management.
Supervise the facilitys operation center and team activities throughout your shift.
Coordinate with day tech teams and management to prioritize daily operational tasks and activities.
Gain comprehensive training in critical facility systems including Electrical, Mechanical, Building Monitoring, Fire, and Controls.
Respond to and monitor all facility systems alarms promptly.
Assist with equipment shutdowns/startups in line with standard procedures to support maintenance activities.
Provide a thorough, documented shift handover to the next team.
Act as the first response to fire alerts, equipment alarms, and emergency events on-site.
Familiarize with the facilitys Emergency Response Plan and act as a liaison with security during emergencies.
Prepare detailed incident reports for on-site events and ensure these are submitted to supervisory management.
Log and monitor critical task notifications through the CMMS system, ensuring timely updates and closures.
Record and report all hours and facility-related tasks in CMMS.
Ensure 100% compliance in completing scheduled preventative maintenance activities.
Oversee third-party contractors, ensuring they are permitted to work in critical areas and that all safety protocols are followed.
Conduct vendor inspections during shifts to monitor work quality, particularly for break/fix and project work.
Draft and review operational documents, such as emergency operating procedures, drills, and other essential guidelines.
Ensure shift audit completion on all CE systems, including BMS, EPMS, and Fireworks.
Participate in health and safety initiatives, reporting and addressing hazards through the QHSE platform.
Remain on-site until relieved by the next Shift Technician.
Qualifications and Experience Certified trade qualification in a relevant engineering field.
Proficient in LV power distribution and mechanical systems; data center experience is a plus.
Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, such as Transformers, UPS systems, Battery banks, Chillers, CRAC units, Fire Alarm, and Fire Suppression systems.
Experience with automatic control equipment and systems integration.
Familiarity with medium voltage distribution and protection equipment.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Organized, with the ability to prioritize and work effectively in high-pressure environments.
Ability to work on shift rotations, including emergency response coverage as needed.
