UPMC Sports Medicine & UPMC Institute for Health (IFH) UPMC presently provides high level Sports Medicine & IFH services across multiple sites in Ireland.
The Head of rehabilitation will work with the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH Leadership Team to develop and expand the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH network.
They will endeavour to ensure UPMC patients receive the highest possible quality of care and will work to grow the brand and reputation of UPMC Sports Medicine and IFH.
The role will have an equal 50/50 split of time between maintaining clinical case load and administrative duties.
Principle Duties: To lead a network of physiotherapists and rehabilitation MDT to deliver standardised, evidence-based, high quality rehabilitation protocols across the UPMC Sports Medicine network; including the UPMC Institute for Health and UPMC Concussion network.
To manage the rehabilitation staff in UPMC SSC Outpatient site in Gullivers Retail Park, Northwood Avenue, Santry, Dublin.
To provide clinical leadership and training to the therapists within the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH network; which would include formulating an appropriate, individual management plan using clinical reasoning skills, objective setting, timed measurable goals and ensuring treatment progression with a variety of manual and self-management techniques.
To promote and participate in the multidisciplinary approach of working within the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH network, involving physiotherapists, strength & conditioning coaches, athletic therapist, athletic trainers, sports therapists, biomechanists, Sports medicine consultants and orthopaedic surgeons.
To develop the UPMC Concussion Network rehabilitation protocols; and to promote, educate and generate awareness of concussion on behalf of the UPMC Concussion Network in Ireland.
To develop the UPMC Institute for Health network programs and services; and to promote, educate and generate awareness of the IFH on behalf of UPMC in Ireland.
The Head of Rehabilitation will be measured annually on four key components Patient Experience, Our People, Quality and Budget across sites.
To develop a progression model for rehabilitation staff to reflect seniority and experience, that can be replicated across the network.
To ensure budgets are actively met.
To review activity data and ensure full utilisation of resources to deliver budgets.
To ensure continuous improvement projects are in place to maximise activity and utilisation of services.
To regularly visit the various the UPMC Sports Medicine sites and have the capacity to travel to these sites when required.
Apply a high level of understanding of the effects and impact of illness/disability and injury on the patients' abilities and recommend appropriate lifestyle changes and provide appropriate clinical advice to patients, relatives and carers.
To fulfil the role of a chartered physiotherapist in the assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of all injuries for an agreed caseload of patients.
To ensure appropriate record keeping and electronic patient records and maintenance of good practice in data recording across all practitioners.
To ensure all quality and governance protocols are implement by Rehabilitation staff across sites and to ensure all records are up to date.
To ensure GDPR compliance is in place at sites and medical records are maintained and stored correctly.
To ensure customer service and customer experience is maintained at the highest of standards.
Ensure systems of feedback are live and feedback acted on.
Communication: To work with the UPMC Sports Medicine Leadership Team to expand the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH network.
To work with the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH Leadership Team to develop a standardised testing protocol, including exercise selection and patient selection, for patients attending UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH clinics.
To work with the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH Leadership Team to develop SOPs for the most common clinical presentations to the network, to facilitate the standardisation of care.
To work with the Head of Lab services and Research to upskill and educate rehabilitation staff on the delivery of agreed rehabilitation protocols.
To work with the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH Leadership Team to provide regular CPD events for UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH staff.
To work with the UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH Leadership Team to host CPD events and conferences for the Sports Medicine & IFH community.
To develop the use of digital consultations.
To collaborate on research in the areas of sports medicine, musculoskeletal injury, and exercise as medicine and its role in chronic disease management.
In conjunction with HR recruit, induct, mentor,manage,motivate and develop staff.
To produce a weekly report mapping fill rates, cancellations, and growth in the rehabilitation team in UPMC-SSC, and arrange the same from each site in the network.
Attend weekly UPMC Sports Medicine & IFH Leadership Team meetings.
Collaborate and work with colleagues across UPMC sites in Ireland and Pittsburgh.
To work collaboratively with MDT colleagues across the health and social care services to ensure delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service.
Professional Accountability and Development: To promote and participate in flexible working hours and location of practice to optimise the availability of the service for patients, including out of hours service as required.

To demonstrate ongoing personal and professional development through participation in internal and external development opportunities.
To develop, implement and maintain high clinical standards, disseminate information and ensure that practice is based on best available evidence.
To support and participate in UPMC Sports Medicine MDT / journal club sessions.
Regular attendance at biweekly journal club and departmental educational meetings is a requirement.
To ensure accurate and up to date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements, including the production of appropriate reports, letters and treatment summaries across the network for all rehabilitation interactions.
To actively participate in the staff appraisal scheme and development of personal development plans as an appraiser and appraisee.
To be able to identify individual needs for development.
To provide timely and constructive feedback to others as appropriate and facilitate means to achieve development needs.
To undertake measurement and evaluation of your work through the use of outcome measures and audit, and to make recommendations for change.
To represent UPMC at national and international conferences.
To be actively involved in the collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department.
To adhere to all of the requirements of the UPMC policies, procedures and guidelines.
Be aware of the health and safety aspects of your work and implement any policies which may be required to improve the safety of your work area, including the prompt reporting and recording of accidents.
To undertake a lead role in the CHKS or JCI accreditation process as required under the remit of the role As the service needs change, the above duties will be subject to change and flexibility.
Qualifications Essential: Hold a Degree in Physiotherapy and be either a member of the Irish or UK Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, and have CORU registration MSc in the field of Sports Medicine Extensive publication history, including original research.
Desirable: PhD in the field of Sports Medicine Previous Research and/or lecture experience in Sports Medicine Experience: At least 10 years working as chartered physiotherapist.
Extensive injury screening, diagnostic, manual therapy, and sports rehabilitation understanding.
Extensive knowledge of injury prevention methods and recovery strategies Experience working in a professional/elite sporting club and working in an interdisciplinary sports science and medicine team.
Significant experience in the delivery of injury diagnosis, treatment and prevention strategies within a sporting environment General Personal Competencies Set and maintain high standards of work performance and deliver quality consistently and efficiently.
Possessing communication skills that are clear, engaging and responsive.
Have the ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
Establish relationships and influence key stakeholder groups.
Managing change and embedding new ways of working Demonstrate a good level of PC literacy.
