Position: Deputy Head of School, Health Sciences Contract: Permanent Reports to: Head of School Location: Hybrid Role Profile The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, an excellent academic record and experience of working across a broad range of relevant stakeholders.
The Deputy Head of School will take a leadership role in charting the School's future strategic direction within the context of the Hibernia College's Group strategic plan.
The Deputy Head of School will have a strong track record of professional accomplishment in his/her academic discipline and will have shown evidence of outstanding management and leadership abilities.
He/she should possess qualities of strategic and innovative thinking and have extensive experience of academic and financial management.
He/she should possess a doctorate and/or be at professorial level and have a strong record of publications in the discipline area.
He/she will have a proven capacity to engage and motivate academic and administrative staff.
He/she will also demonstrate an in-depth understanding of national and international developments in research and in teaching/learning as well as a grasp of the key issues facing the sector.
The ability to foster and extend national and international linkages and alliances is crucial.
Responsibilities The primary function of the Deputy Head of School is to provide leadership and direction to faculty, staff and students.
He/she will report to the Head of School, for the management, general administration, supervision and operation of the School.
Leadership Support the Head of School in the management and co-ordinate of the activities to achieve the School's strategic direction Contribute to strategic planning and direction and participate, as a member of the Senior Management on a variety of committees including the Academic Council and Academic Leadership Team Guide and support Faculty in the development, delivery, management and evaluation of the College's programmes, personnel, resources, and activities.
Ensuring a high-quality student experience and effective communications between the student and the College.
Data collection and analysis in relation to attrition Oversee program and course accreditation transitions Academic Leadership Serve as acting deputy registrar as needed for registration and awards Conduct faculty inductions Promote excellence in teaching, learning, and research Plan and evaluate School programmes and activities Conduct regular reviews of the School including examination of integrating mechanisms with other programmes not limited to "Home" and "Cohort" Ensure that the education and learning of all students is optimised Oversee all prior learning assessment and recognition developing a standardized process Oversee student support & student integrity Data analytics in relation to learner analytics External Relations Develop strong internal/external networks and strategic alliances and promote the visibility and reputation of the School nationally and internationally.
Engage with the wider HE sectors nationally and internationally, maintaining currency with prevailing higher education policy and the implications of same for the School, its programmes, students, and potential developments Advise the College of external developments of interest and of their potential implications and suggesting possible responses on the part of the College.
Personnel Maintain plans for the staffing needs of the School Ensure administrative efficiency and effectiveness and compliance with policies and procedures Ensure reviews of performance and assessment of developmental needs of staff in the School are undertaken in accordance with policy; Ensure timely and effective communication with staff and students Encourage maximum staff participation in the activities of the School Requirements/Qualifications: Essential: Qualified to level 10 on the QQI national framework of qualifications or close to completion.
Excellent knowledge of policy, curriculum in the field of education IACP accreditation for 5 years preferred High level of competence in communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating excellence in diplomacy and negotiation.
Self-motivated leader with a proven record in effective team leadership and management and the ability to motivate and empower others.
