Position Description A vacancy exists for a Hydro Team Member at Erne Generating Stations. The Erne Hydro-Electric power stations are important installations on the River Erne operating to the highest levels of safety and reliability. The River Erne is around 60 miles/100km in length, rising in County Cavan, flowing through Cavan, Fermanagh and Donegal. The concrete Hydro-Electric Dams and Earthen embankment dams are Category A structures impounding the water for the generation of electricity. Category A Structures are those whose breach could result in loss of life. Assaroe Reservoir was formed by the construction of 1km of Category A Earthen Embankment Structures to the south of the River between Cliff and Cathaleen's Fall concrete Dams, just outside the town of Ballyshannon. The Hydro Team member will contribute to and be support the full station team in working across all functional areas within the stations including maintenance, operations, technical services, civil, supervision and contractor management. The successful candidate will be required to work to the level of their competence to carry out their duties. They will be required to work autonomously, be flexible and be a self-starter. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others is required. The Hydro Team Member will be a member of the maintenance management team in Donegal Stations, the successful candidate will supervise the civil works maintenance team. Key Responsibilities Duties of the role includes but may not be limited to: The successful candidate will have an ability to lead and motivate staff. Manage and develop the Civil Works team skills using computer systems. Flexibility, ability to lead & manage change will be a feature of the job. Support station business goals (Dam Safety, Availability, Safety/Environmental accreditation etc.) and execute various projects as assigned by local management. Managing projects and contractors safely and cost effectively under the station Safety Rules. This would include issuing permits, processing staff/contractor risk assessment and method statements. Supervising works for safety and quality. Implementing the Station's Safety and Environmental Management System and taking responsibility for key aspects such as testing, maintenance of registers and carrying out audits. Work Management System - Ability to identify, plan, budget for and manage work using computer systems. Planning and scheduling work on the Work Management computer System. The planning and implementation of maintenance strategies, to ensure specific deadlines are achieved. Keeping a record of job cards on work management system. Cost effective procurement of goods and services, administration of contracts and budget management. Creating purchase orders and goods receipting as per work requirements. Playing a key role in Dam Safety Management, Civil Engineering Maintenance and Water Control. This covers concrete and embankment dams, buildings, roads/drains, station grounds and catchment lands. Safe and cost effective management of the Station's transport fleet Management of the Station's Waste Streams and Waste Management Contracts Working as an integral part of the management team to lead & promote management initiatives, reviews and implementation of agreed new systems as part of the change programme for the station. A Best Practice Station Agreement (BPSA) is in place in Erne Stations and the successful candidate will be fully involved in its continued implementation and ongoing development. Experience and Qualifications Essential Driving License Candidates for this role must have relevant experience in Civil Works/in a Station environment. Strong interpersonal skills Excellent communication skills The successful candidate will have an ability to lead and motivate staff, and to plan and organise work so as to ensure the safe delivery of station performance as required. Desirable Trade qualification in Construction related discipline e.g. carpentry, scaffolding, brick-laying, excavator driver. Strong IT skills Familiarity with ESB systems such as CMMS+, SAP, SHIELD, Eclipse and FMIS Understanding and experience in building construction and maintenance. Location This position will be based in ESB's Erne Generating Stations, Co. Donegal (Cathaleen's Fall and Cliff). There may be a requirement to carry out works in Clady Generating Station in Gweedore from time to time. Reporting To Supervising Civil Engineer, Donegal Stations Why Work with Us?
