The primary purpose of this role is to provide general nursing care, the Nurse also holds responsibility for overseeing and coordinating the work that our Carers undertake in the centre.
The organisation offers a wide range of services for adults and older persons in the Killorglin and greater mid Kerry area.
This includes nursing services through an on site nurse, personal care services, laundry service, transport service and day activity services that take place in the centre, in house meals and a meals on wheels service.
These activities include social, physical and educational programmes aimed at addressing the needs of our clients.
The job holder will report to the Community Care Centre Manager.
The post holder is expected to operate with considerable autonomy.
The nature of matters referred upwards are those: Where significant resistance is experienced in the development of good practice and implementation of policy.
Where practice or proposed practice places stakeholders in a position of risk e.g.
a child, a vulnerable adult, members, volunteers, the reputation of the Society.
Where decision will have a significant impact on the workload of others.
Requirements of the role: Ensure all nursing care is delivered to the requisite HSE and HIQA standards.
Conduct pulse and blood pressure checks.
Management of wounds and dressings.
Provide personal care to clients and emergency care when necessary.
Report any client concerns (acute or ongoing) to the Centre Manager and through the Centre Manager where appropriate, to the clients doctor, public health nurse or social welfare officer.
Work collaboratively with the Centre Manager and other staff in the best interest of the clients.
Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to clients.
Follow Policies and Procedures and best practice of client and staff in the centre.
Ensure dignity and respect of clients.
To provide any other Nursing Care as required and in agreement with Management.
Support the Admission and Discharge Committee in assessing applications to the service when required.
Oversee the admission of new clients offered a place in the centre in line with established procedure.
Oversee the admissions pack ensuring all required documentation is completed and filed appropriately.
Maintain and update all client documentation on an ongoing basis including care plans, risk assessments and personal information held on file.
Ensure the centre meets the highest health and safety standards of cleanliness, hygiene, fire and HACCP requirements by keeping updated with centre guidelines & policies .
Support staff in maintaining good order and organisation in the centre.
Supervise and support the carers in their work in the centre.
Oversee a programme of activities developed in conjunction with the team and management.
Liaise with management and kitchen staff regarding dietary needs of the clients.
Provide cover for the second Nurse during times of absence including sick/annual/training leave Act as senior staff member on site in the absence of the Centre Manager.
Attend team and multidisciplinary meeting when required.
Attend training as required.
Qualification/Requiremtents: A recognised Nursing Qualification is essential.
Current Nursing or Midwifery Board of Ireland Registration A knowledge and appreciation of the Society, its ethos, mission and values.
Understanding of health and safety requirements in this area.
Understanding of HSE and HIQA standards for nursing.
High level of clinical knowledge to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role.
EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years post-qualification experience as a Registered Nurse is essential.
Experience of working with the elderly or this age group is essential.
Experience of working in the community/ voluntary sector would be an advantage.
