Purpose The Ophthalmic Nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with eye disorders, injuries, and diseases. The successful candidate will work closely with our team of Consultant Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and Ophthalmic Technicians to provide excellent care to patients. Full training will be provided to include Ophthalmology JACHPO training program, Fluoresceine angiogram diagnostics scrubbing for minor op procedures such and lid surgery, excimer laser and intravitreal injections. Responsibilities Nursing Activities: At all times, prioritise casualty nurse appointments Manage emergencies to include chemical injuries, resuscitation, administer pain medications and intravenous medications Advise the exact diagnostics to be performed Be the point of the contact for casualty patients Monitor patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments and report any concerns to the relevant Consultant Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain knowledge and skills. Be the point of contact for blood results and liaise with consultants on same. Surgical Scrub Nurse for IVT clinics Perform ophthalmic assessments as and when required. Performance: Participate in internal and external groups/committees as required. Maintain effective working relationships between all departments and locations. Work collaboratively with in house and external colleagues, to drive processes which are essential to the successful running of the clinic. Practice: Support the introduction of new technologies and activities from other sites, developing efficient processes that align with clinic and customer standards. Ensure patient queries are dealt with according to protocols and in a timely manner. Compliance: Complete and follow up on Incident Forms as needed. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards. Other: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. Attend conferences when required. Ensure that effective health and safety procedures are developed and managed to comply with statutory obligations. Actively engage with senior management, lead clinicians, clinic floor coordinators, consultants and highlight potential problems in a proactive manner. Maintain a clean and neat working environment, ensuring high standards of housekeeping. Promote and actively engage in an environment of compliance, continuous improvement, responsiveness to change and innovation within the Institute. As part of this role, you may be required to travel and provide support to other practice locations Perform other duties as necessary. Requirements Recognised Nursing qualification. Registered with NMBI or eligible for registration. Previous experience in a busy patient clinic is an advantage. Full clean driving licence. Strong communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of healthcare professionals. Ability to work effectively in a complex and changing environment. High levels of personal integrity and loyalty. An ability to manage deadlines and effectively handle multiple tasks with strong attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in using electronic medical records and other computer applications. Knowledge of ophthalmic medications and their effects. Ability to perform ophthalmic assessments and tests accurately and efficiently. Have the ability to interface and build relationships with patients, employees and management at various levels within the organisation. Maintains a high level of professionalism, integrity and trust. Able to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Must have a can do attitude with a willingness to undertake any task required Skills: NMBI Full Clean Driving Licence Flexible
