Join our dedicated team where we provide specialist engineering services to our Networks businesses in the area of transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.
The team specialises in;
Delivering civil and structural designs on a wide range of transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.Developing standards, material design development and analysis.The role of the successful candidate will be to work on civil/structural design aspects of transmission and distribution infrastructure projects, material specification and project management in our Transmission and Distribution Delivery Design department.
We are looking for an Engineer with civil, structural engineering experience to join us on our journey to a Brighter Future.
Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Civil and Structural Design Design using non-linear finite element design software to undertake the designs of structures such as lattice towers up to 50m, wood poles and the latest innovative transmission structures including composite, concrete & laminate.Design of transmission foundations (reinforced pad, piles, pile caps).Working with structural detailers creating detailed designs and drawings plans for their designs for transmission line projects.Developing project designs, preparation of construction documentation.Providing oversight on site to ensure designs are implemented to the required standard.Undertaking health and safety design coordination.Materials development and testing Following design, witness full scale destructive tower loading test, wood pole load testing, steel component load testing at our international supplier locations.Support the introduction of new innovative materials to support the targets of ESB's networks for net zero strategy including fibre reinforced polymer poles and non-destructive testing of structures including poles.Standards Development Be supported to enhance the knowledge on the basis of civil and structural design to update current standards and develop future standards (ESB standards, Irish standards and international standards).Engage with our international collaborative bodies such as Cigré and CEATI and opportunities to expand capability through virtual and in person networking at working group meetings.Opportunities for growth To expand knowledge on carbon fibre core conductors, wider overhead lines technologies from the experienced structural design function.Knowledge, Skills and Experience Working as part of this dynamic team, you will always have new challenges and new problems to solve – working together is key.
You will have the autonomy to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems with the support of your colleagues.
We are looking for the following skills;
Minimum engineering experience in a design office of 2 yearsA strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to safety, time, quality, and cost objectivesStrong technical capabilityStrong ability to prioritise with excellent organisational skillsDetailed knowledge & experience of safety principles in designProven track record of project co-ordination to the highest technical standardsDrivers licence and access to a carExperience in the delivery of work packages for the construction phase of projectsKnowledge and experience of engineering design software–AutoCAD, Microstation and Microsoft ProjectExperience in development of material specifications and materials tender assessmentsKnowledge and experience of ISO Quality systemsQualifications Level 8 Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential.Location Your base will be at one of our offices situated at One Dublin Airport Central or Eastgate Cork.

The successful candidate may combine remote/smart working within the jurisdiction, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and subject to ongoing review.
Travel to project locations as required, is a key requirement of the role.

€48,000 to €56,000 per annum
