Title:Researcher in Data Centre Scheduling Department:Computer Science Contract Type:1 Year Fixed Term Contract Location:Bishopstown Campus, Cork Reporting to:Dr Victor Cionca / Dr Ted Scully Overview Munster Technological University Cork, which incorporates the Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork School of Music, and the National Maritime College of Ireland, invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Researcher in the Department of Computer Science.
The successful candidate will work as part of the MoNet (Modern Networking technologies) research team.
MoNet is a project that investigates networking technologies such as programmable data planes, in-network computing, network optimisation and verification, mmwave mesh, their challenges and their ability to address the increasing demand for high quality and low latency content.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract position located at the Cork Bishopstown campus of the Munster Technological University, Department of Computer Science.
The successful candidate will report to Dr. Victor Cionca.
Duties of the Post: In terms of key responsibilities, the list below indicates the scope of the role.
Other tasks and responsibilities may emerge as the role develops: The main tasks of this position are to: Develop algorithms for scheduling of computational tasks in data centre applications Develop capacity models for data centre applications Set up data centre computational applications on the MoNet testbed Evaluate the impact of timing and synchronisation on the scheduling performance.
In addition the successful candidate is expected to contribute to dissemination of results (publications, workshops, seminars, etc) as primary organiser or contributor Help with the supervision/mentoring of future research students Contribute to the drafting of funding applications Interface with other research organisations or industry Participate in the design of the teams research strategy.
Qualification Requirements and Selection Criteria for role: Essential: The post will require a researcher who holds (or is expected to receive in the near future) a PhD in a relevant field such as distributed systems, scheduling, computational offloading.
Alternatively significant relevant industrial or research experience will be considered in lieu of postgraduate qualifications.
Software development skills: systems programming, scripting Experience setting up experimental infrastructure Publications of academic papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
Desirable: Experience with scheduling algorithms Experience with computational offloading applications Experience with time synchronisation Experience writing funding applications.
