Medforce are delighted to hve partnered with a hghly renowned facility to recruit a Senior Orthoptist in the Westmeath catchment area. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Orthoptist to join our client's Ophthalmology team based in Westmeath. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services to children and adults with ocular motility disorders and binocular vision abnormalities as part of a multidisciplinary team. The Senior Orthoptist for Longford/Westmeath will be based in the Eye Department in Mullingar and will conduct outreach clinics in Longford and Athlone as needed. Duties include but are not limited to: Conduct detailed orthoptic assessments, including history taking, visual acuity testing, optical coherent tomographyand binocular function evaluation. Carry out visual field examinations when requested (Humphrey Field Analyser) and participate in digital imaging / clinical photography and other automated ophthalmic investigations when required. Assess patients with Diplopia particularly from the stroke unit. Diagnose and manage a variety of ocular conditions such as strabismus, amblyopia, and nystagmus. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including vision therapy and exercises. Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care. Provide pre- and post-operative care and support for patients undergoing ocular surgery. Educate patients and their families about ocular conditions, treatment options, and home care instructions. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with hospital policies. Participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and continuous professional development activities. Conduct clinical audits and research to contribute to the advancement of orthoptic practice. Essential criteria: Operate within the Scope of Practice of the British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS) and Irish Association of Orthoptists (IAO) and register with CORU when applicable.
