Almost 725,000 Irish homes and businesses trust Ireland's gas network to provide efficient and reliable energy to meet their heating, cooking, manufacturing and transport needs.
The gas network is the cornerstone of Ireland's energy system, securely supplying more than 30% of Ireland's total energy, including 40% of all heating and almost 50% of the country's electricity generation.
Gas Networks Ireland is aiming to deliver a repurposed, resized and fully decarbonised gas network by 2045.
Its "Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network" envisions transforming the existing gas network into two separate systems carrying 100% renewable gas, one dedicated to biomethane and the other to green hydrogen, with the potential to carry approximately 30% biomethane and 70% green hydrogen, as well as offering significant long term energy export opportunities.
The Role: The Asset Delivery function within Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for the end to end planning, designing and delivery of GNI's portfolio of asset development programmes.
Encompassing the three pillars of Project Delivery Management, Design Delivery and Project Services; the Asset Delivery function brings together all the technical and project support capabilities needed to take high-level projects and programmes from the Portfolio Office and translate these through from detailed design and project planning, to construction delivery and handover to Asset Operations.
Reporting to the GNI CNG and CGI Delivery Manager, the main purpose of the role is to ensure optimum delivery of both design and construction for CNG and Biomethane Central Grid Injection (CGI) projects – a key pillar in GNI's decarbonisation pathway.
Through a multidisciplinary approach and close liaison with internal Departmental functions, customers, external service providers and stakeholders, the Senior Project Engineer will ensure that these projects are designed and built in the most efficient, cost-effective manner while aligned and compliant with technical standards and policies including sustainability.
Duties and Responsibilities: Working with the GNI Design team to ensure designs and estimates are efficient, cost effective, safe and robust whilst complying with technical standards and policies.Develop and coordinate tender and contract documents for Asset Delivery with respect to procurement of 3rd party services and works contracts as necessary.
Review all project related contractor documentation to ensure compliance with legislation, standards and specifications.
Ensure GNI secures value for money and consistent delivery at a scale that meets GNI's Growth ambition.Deliver CNG/CGI Construction Projects within approved timelines and budgets by working in partnership with Supply Chain partners and monitoring contractor performance.Develop, coordinate and implement the CNG/CGI commissioning plan involving Design Delivery, Asset Operations, Vendors, Contractor, external stakeholders and key Customer staff.Responsible for ensuring all project activities are completed in line with GNI Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental and Sustainability requirements.Working closely with the customer throughout each Project to ensure alignment with their programme of works and to ensure a clear handover of key information relating to ongoing operation.Providing technical support to the Business Development team to determine the commercial viability of CNG/CGI projects.Responsible for drafting and submitting key documentation as required to progress internal project budget approvals through relevant investment governance committees, in conjunction with Portfolio Office.Responsible for ensuring all project technical records, including As-Built documentation and Asset Data, are delivered to Project Services and Asset Information teams as required.Support the CNG/CGI Delivery Manager in key decisions such as resource planning and supply chain optimisation.Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Relevant third level qualification in Engineering, construction or related discipline.Minimum 6 years' experience in the delivery of construction projects.Proven track record in construction management and site experience.Strong knowledge of construction methods and experience with Construction Health and Safety Regulations.Knowledge of Project Management methodologies and a proven track record in their implementation.Knowledge and Experience of Nature Based SUDS solutions is an advantage.Strong commercial and business acumen with an in-depth financial perspective.Strong people, communication and conflict resolution skills.Experience with identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas and implementation of solutions.Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion, along with the ability to communicate complex information to others.Having a Growth Mindset and proactively identifying new areas of learning and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job.A passion for the environment and a deep interest in taking steps to respond to climate change is an advantage.Applications, including current Curriculum Vitae, should be emailed to the following address stating the job title and reference number in the subject line of your email: The closing date for receipt of applications for this vacancy is the 24th January 2025.
