Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains Ireland's €3bn, 14,725km national gas network, which is considered one of the safest and most modern renewables-ready gas networks in the world.
Almost 725,000 Irish homes and businesses trust Ireland's gas network to provide efficient and reliable energy to meet their heating, cooking, manufacturing and transport needs.
The gas network is the cornerstone of Ireland's energy system, securely supplying more than 30% of Ireland's total energy, including 40% of all heating and almost 50% of the country's electricity generation.
Gas Networks Ireland is aiming to deliver a repurposed, resized and fully decarbonised gas network by 2045.
Its "Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network" envisions transforming the existing gas network into two separate systems carrying 100% renewable gas, one dedicated to biomethane and the other to green hydrogen, with the potential to carry approximately 30% biomethane and 70% green hydrogen, as well as offering significant long term energy export opportunities.
The Role: The Asset Delivery function within Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for the end to end planning, designing and delivery of GNI's portfolio of asset development programmes.
Reporting to the Project Delivery Lead – Compressor Programmes, the Senior Project Delivery Engineer – SWSOS will be responsible for the end to end planning and delivery of specific projects/programmes of work issued to the compressor workstream by the Portfolio Office.
The successful candidate will work closely with key internal stakeholders across the Portfolio Office, Asset Management, Asset Operations, Design Delivery and Project Services teams.
As part of a team you will lead and/or support the successful development and delivery of these projects from Gate 2 through to Gate 4.
The role is based in Cork or Dublin but will involve oversight of Compressor Station or Above Ground Installation programmes of work that may be delivered in either Scotland or the Isle of Man.
As such it requires regular travel to these areas of the GNI gas network.
Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for leading cross functional teams in the design, planning and delivery of specified asset delivery/upgrade projects, including management of project budget, schedule, quality and customer/stakeholder requirements, from Gate 2 to Gate 4.Responsible for coordinating with Project Delivery Lead and Portfolio Office regarding provision of all project status and KPI information, (e.g.
cost expenditure, cost forecast and variance costs); as well as all information necessary for securing all internal and external governance approvals.Responsible for developing and maintaining project schedules (utilising MS Project) including tracking and reporting on progress against the agreed schedule.
Updating project status on a monthly basis through the GNI Project Reporting Portal, Business Objects, Maximo and MS Excel.Responsible for developing, reviewing and collating key documentation as required to progress internal project budget approvals through relevant investment governance committees, in conjunction with Portfolio Office.Coordinate the development of tender and contract documents for Asset Delivery, with respect to procurement of 3rd party services and works contracts as necessary.
Review all project related contractor documentation to ensure compliance with legislation, standards and specifications.Liaising with external stakeholders such as Local Authorities, Shipper Forums, SEPA, ESB, Eir, NPWS, TII, regarding full project lifecycle activities/agreements.
Includes managing applications where assigned projects require Statutory approvals or planning applications.Work closely with SWSOS Contractors, as well as Asset Operations teams regarding the planning and delivery of Compressor Station or Above Ground Installation work programmes applicable to the region.Responsible for contract management, risk mitigation and change control, per project/programme.Drive for high performance, setting the standard for continuous improvement in the delivery of projects/programmes.Responsible for the budget management and expenditure for specified projects, from Gate 2 to Gate 4; including certification of all payments to contractors in line with governance guidelines and contributing to development of relevant Gate and Contract Approval documentation.Ensure project team has oversight of the role of Principal Designer (PD) through the project lifecycle ensuring appropriate coordination of project designer, maintenance of temporary works & design change registers and ensuring the Principal Contractor (PC) adopts appropriate controls to mitigate identified particular risks.Responsible for ensuring all project technical records, including As-Built documentation and Asset Data, are delivered to Project Services team as required.Set high standards for self and team, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement in all areas of project and construction management.Performing other duties as assigned from time to time.Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Relevant third level degree in Engineering, with supplementary qualification in project management desirable.Minimum 6 years post qualification experience involved in managing the delivery of projects and programmes, in the natural gas or similar utility industries (e.g.
water, gas, telecommunications).Experienced in the delivery of projects on Compressor Stations and / or Natural Gas Network Entry Points an advantage.Knowledge of relevant Gas Standards, Codes of Practice and Statutory Requirements an advantage.Have a working knowledge of H&S standards and risk management systems including awareness of construction role responsibilities e.g.
PD and PC role etc.Working knowledge of project management and financial management, as well as construction delivery best practice.Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion, along with the ability to communicate complex information to others.Knowledge of contract management, commercial risk and dispute management, project supervision and issues reporting, interface management and programme planning.Ability to develop strategic relationships to accomplish the delivery of high priority complex programmes, with multiple stakeholders.Ability to exercise independent judgement in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for programme optimisation and change control.Have excellent analytical skills and experience in identifying improvement opportunities, analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions.Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to influence, advocate and persuade.Full driving licence and access to a vehicle in road worthy condition.Applications, including current Curriculum Vitae, should be emailed to the following address stating the job title and reference number in the subject line of your email: ******
