Description
Croí is seeking to recruit a full-time experienced Allied Health Professional with a passion for stroke rehabilitation and prevention. This role is ideally suited to a professional with a background in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or Speech and Language Therapy.
Over the past 3 years, Croí has placed an increased focus on our activity related to stroke support and prevention. Our capacity to provide much-needed community-based support for individuals and families affected by stroke has been greatly increased by a recent Legacy Donation for community stroke support received in 2023 from the Joe and Helen O'Toole Charitable Trust. As a result of this donation, Croí is in the process of building a dedicated stroke hub called The Joe & Helen O'Toole Stroke Hub on the Croí Heart & Stroke campus in Newcastle, Galway, and will fund two PhD scholarships in Stroke Prevention Research. As part of this donation, Croí has also purchased two vehicles to facilitate greater presence in the community focused on early detection and awareness of stroke and heart disease risk factors.
The successful applicant will be joining Croí at the most exciting time in our 40 years in the context of this unprecedented development in infrastructure for stroke support and will lead the development of existing and new innovative offerings to meet the needs of people affected by stroke.
This role is based at the Croí Heart & Stroke Centre, Newcastle, Galway, with some flexibility for remote working 1-2 days per week, subject to business need.
Key TasksOversee the operation of the new Croí Stroke Hub, including scheduling, planning and communicating with partners such as the Early Supported Discharge Team.Deliver existing stroke support offerings such as the Croí Rebuild Programme and stroke support groups, including ongoing review and improvement in line with emerging guidelines and evidence.Devise, deliver and evaluate new evidence-based initiatives based on the needs of our community members affected by stroke, e.g. fatigue management and family support.Involvement in community-based and advocacy activities related to stroke prevention, including clinical, health promotion and content related input.Be responsible for stroke information resources on topics like managing stroke risk factors.Support advocacy activities related to stroke prevention and management through Heart and Stroke Voice Ireland.Develop and maintain relationships with specialist stroke services within acute and community settings.Work with local and national bodies in the development and implementation of national health service priorities, such as the National Stroke Strategy.CompetenciesCORU registration.A proficient knowledge of current developments in the prevention and management of stroke.Advanced clinical reasoning.Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.The ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team in service delivery, development and in achieving key performance outputs.Demonstrate leadership skills in the management and coordination of stroke activities and the Croí Stroke Hub.Initiative and motivation in service delivery.Confidence, assertiveness and flexibility.Excellent IT skills - Email, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and database management.Excellent writing skills – Confident contributing to information leaflets, reports and presentations.Experience in public speaking/delivery of patient education sessions.Excellent organisational skills with an aptitude for effective time management, problem solving, project planning, delivery and execution.A commitment to quality, measurable through audit and/or research.Remuneration
The salary scale is €53,000 – €58,000 dependent on experience. The role is being offered initially as a fixed term contract of 12 months, with a review to become permanent based on performance.
