The core activities for the post of Support Worker will include planning and setting goals with the person to assist them in meeting their personal, social, recreational, academic, independent living, community integration, training and supported employment needs. The Support Worker operates within the framework of a person centred approach and actively engages with and promotes co-operation and partnership with other services, both internally and externally and in particular with families. Along with supporting adults with an intellectual disability in the day centre and community, the support worker will be required to complete all relevant reports and documentation.
The support worker will incorporate and implement New Directions in line with National standards for day services.
They will provide physical support, including personal care, emotional support and health care support whilst encouraging and supporting the development of personal skills through hobbies and interests.
As well as teaching life skills, the support worker will work alongside other healthcare professionals to ensure that all care needs meet the highest possible standards. Essential Criteria: QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support.
Equivalent qualifications to Healthcare support will be considered, with a minimum of 1 years relevant experience working with Adults with an Intellectual Disability. Applications will also be considered from candidates who have successfully completed at least 1 year of their Nursing or Social Care degree. Experience of working in a care delivery capacity, preferably within a disability service. A full drivers licence with access to a car insured for business purposes is essential (desirable for relief roles). Where applicable, applicants must hold a valid Irish work permit. The Role for relief social care worker: To facilitate and implement a person centred approach for our individuals appropriate to their wishes and goals. To promote and protect the rights of the people we support in a manner that respects their dignity, right to make choices, and their privacy. To actively seek new interests and opportunities for the people we support to develop meaningful roles in their communities. To support residents to attend events in the community and to attend their day centre. To ensure the overall wellbeing of the people we support in all areas of their lives including health and personal care. Involvement in attending local team meetings. Essential Criteria: Must be eligible for registration on the Social Care Workers registration board with CORU from November 2023. Must obtain such registration by November 2025 and must maintain such registration for the duration of employment in this role. Experience of working in a care delivery capacity, preferably within a disability service. A passion for promoting and empowering those you support. An excellent knowledge of the HIQA regulations and standards. A full drivers licence with access to a car insured for business purposes and must be willing to drive Association vehicles is desirable. Where applicable, applicants must hold a valid Irish work permit.
