The Network Alerts team in AWS is looking for System Development Engineers to help build systems that monitor the AWS network, one of the world's largest and most complex networks.
Tens of millions of customers rely on this network for using our retail websites, accessing content on their Kindles, and building applications and businesses on top of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Our success depends on our state-of-the-art network infrastructure, and keeping it reliable and fault-tolerant by diagnosing impairments depends on the Network Alerts team.

As a System Development Engineer, you will help to deploy, manage, fix, and optimize the tools, services, and components that our engineering teams rely on to automate our network and keep it operational.
Your customers will be the network engineers and operators all over the world, different network fabric owners, as well as any AWS services that depend on a network indistinguishable from perfect.

AWS Network Alerts owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of the core monitoring and detection engines for AWS Network.
We work on a set of the most challenging problems, with a huge amount of data and thousands of variables impacting the AWS network, and we're looking for talented people who want to solve these with us.
You'll join a diverse team of software, system and data engineers, scientists, technical program managers, software managers, and other vital roles.
Basic qualifications: Knowledge of computer and system engineering fundamentals (computer architecture, networking, storage, and operating systems)5+ years of experience (non-internship) in professional developmentExperience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, fault tolerance, and scaling) of new and existing systemsExperience in hands-on ops processes, systems engineering, tool development, and maintaining large scale systems in bare-metal serversExperience of extensive programming with at least a couple of languages such as Bash, Python, Go, Rust & Typescript Preferred qualifications: Decent experience working on building software following SDLCStrong experience in infrastructure design, infra as code, writing and managing pipelines, and automationStrong experience with Bash, Python, Typescript or GoExperience managing distributed stateful software in a fleet of servers, with solid networking and SLAsExperience working in a team following Scrum/Kanban or any other agile methodologies Key job responsibilities:
A SysDE is responsible for maintaining their teams' services, requiring them to troubleshoot and identify the root causes of any infrastructural issues that arise within their systems and any subcomponents.
A SysDE will utilize testing, monitoring, and validations on their services, tools, and infrastructure to ensure their teams can continuously deploy new versions of the services with minimal interruption.
A SysDE is expected to identify areas to optimize, refine, and develop automation and tools to reduce manual effort and fulfill the requirements of the business and their customers.
Moreover, a SysDE will continuously take part in proposing infrastructural architecture improvements, cost optimization techniques, and develop capabilities to make those happen.
