The Role: The Vice President, Portfolio Strategy will be a member of the Portfolio Strategy Team within Avolon's Risk organization, reporting to the SVP Portfolio Strategy. The role will participate in crafting asset investment and disposal strategies to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns throughout the business cycle.
Portfolio Strategy and Transactions
The role will provide key insights to influence the decision-making that shapes Avolon's fleet. Combining deep airframe and engine product knowledge, market analysis, commercial opportunity assessment, and risk evaluation, the role will share impactful product and market insights to enhance transaction outcomes, influence key decision makers on aircraft asset investment and disposal strategies and contribute to Avolon's thought leadership agenda on present and future asset-related matters.
External Relationships
The role will interface with traditional and clean technology OEM product marketing and strategy teams in collaboration with Avolon's OEM team, as well as appraisers and advisories, influencing opinions and guiding internal stakeholders on value movements. The role will collaborate internally to drive the development of Avolon's in-house view on aircraft values and economic lives to assist the determination of aircraft depreciation policy.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the development of frameworks for risk-based capital allocation targets for different aircraft types, counterparty types and jurisdictions to assist management decision making on portfolio strategy.Develop strategies to mitigate residual and embedded value risks.Maintain an effective framework to discuss asset risks and industry outlook with relevant decision makers and the Risk Management Committee.Proactively identify and communicate market trends, macro developments, industry threats and opportunities as well as product and market intelligence to deal teams, senior leadership.Contribute to the development of investment cases and risk factors for aircraft types, in collaboration with the OEM and Powerplant teams.Contribute to Capital Markets & Trading, Investor Relations, OEM, Powerplant and Origination deal teams with portfolio, values and market insights.Contribute to Avolon's thought leadership activities, including outlook and sustainability reports and supporting speaking engagements.Build and maintain relationships with product marketing, strategy and forecasting teams at OEMs, extracting impactful product and market intelligence in partnership with the Commercial Insights team.Focal point for clean technology collaboration projects (eVTOL, etc.), providing inputs to Avolon's sustainability strategy.Negotiate and manage subscriptions with data providers for fleets, values and other datasets, optimizing or expanding partnerships to match requirements from internal user groups.Travel to OEMs, appraisers and conferences to represent Avolon, build an effective network, and keep abreast of key industry trends. Essential Skills and Experience: Five or more years of professional experience with two or more years in a directly related role.Passionate about aircraft and engine products, with demonstrated experience in product marketing or aircraft evaluation considered an asset.Display a strategic mindset to complex issues with competitive dynamics involving airlines, OEMs, lessors, and lenders in the context of current events, long-term trends and policy.Awareness of the investment characteristics of aircraft, with experience in aircraft appraising considered an asset.Demonstrated spreadsheet skills. Ability to evaluate investment cases and contribute to building business cases, including financial and risk analysis.Highly organised project manager. Manages, prioritises, tracks and delivers tasks under tight deadlines. Able to parse complex projects into workstreams, delegate and direct others to achieve high quality results.Highly motivated self-starter who can take projects from inception to completion and work under own initiative.Communicates with clarity, able to distil complex information into impactful implications for Avolon, often via PowerPoint, to enable decision-making.Able to engender trust amongst stakeholders by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in Avolon.Ability to instil energy, drive and pride in self and others.Excited about international travel.
